Our Current Obsessions Nº 1 – NOIR

Last Friday was a very special day. After a lot of hard work over the course of the last couple of months we were finally able to open a next chapter in the AS&Co universe: a tactile space that will be open for the public named Our Current Obsessions. The new space, which also houses the studio, can in many ways be seen as a direct result of what has been created online since the eruption of Another Something in 2009, but with more focus in its purpose. Our Current Obsessions will hybridize the traditional concept of an art gallery with a retail-space, always based around one particular theme in which we will take a deep-dive both off- and online. Located right at the mouth of one of Amsterdam’s main canals, it is a little dream come true that finally our love for the ‘beauty of cultures’ can be touched and shared in the analogue world.

Within every Obsession we present brands we love in combination with a presentation of curated products that aline the overall culture and aesthetic of that partner next to the work of leading creatives from around the globe.

For the official start of Our Current Obsessions we are very proud to be teaming up with the Swiss lifestyle label GERTRUD & GEORGE of the very gifted Nick F. Cerutti, in a show called NOIR. GERTRUD & GEORGE, known for their beautifully crafted black accessories line, have their full collection of 21 pieces on display accompanied by a selection of works by talented artists we hold in high esteem. Together with this we present a ‘world of black:’ a diverse selection of curated goods and objects from all over the globe.

On the walls (and window) art pieces by Ramon Haindl, Raymond Lemstra & Sybren Karst, Raymond Teitsma and Guido de Boer; on the shelves a mix of products in collaborations with Tenue de Nîmes, Skins Cosmetics, Mendo Books, Azami, Chocolatl, Mobilia Woonstudio and Miscellaneous together with a personal curation of goods by AcneJr, Nothing, Floris Hovers, Futagami, Lapka, AREAWARE, Sort of Coal, blk. water and a selection of curiosa from stuffed animals, skulls to traditional african dolls.

Visit Our Current Obsessions: NOIR on Thursdays until Saturdays from 10:00 – 17:00 or by appointment until the 15th of November 2014 at the Schippersgracht 7 in Amsterdam.

Also make sure to follow Our Current Obsessions online and on Instagram in which we’ll expand our world of black with insightful stories on the theme, the stories of the featured artists and everything on the products and objects you will find in our curation.
