Yesterday citizenM officially opened its first hotel in the USA, just off the corner of Broadway and 50th street citizenM Times Square the next chapter for the Dutch hotel chain was just opened. With its 21 floors and 230 rooms this is the biggest citizenM till date. The hotel with a city view boasting rooftop bar, a beautiful terrace and a sky gym including an outdoor yoga space, continues its persistent offer of affordable luxury and everything seems to be in order to succeed once again in delivering just that in New York. The lobby of the hotel has the familiar citizenM cosiness, and is open for guests and visitors, with the canteenM open 24 hours a day for quality food, coffee and even cocktails. The Times Square hotel also shows the continuation of the creative partnerships of citizenM. These include the involvement of architecture agency concrete, Vitra, bookstore MENDO and the amazing art collection one finds throughout the hotel.
This interesting collection of modern art and photography; includes work of Andy Warhol, Daido Moriyamo, Florian Süssmayr and David LaChapelle. Artist Julian Opie exclusively created an 8 meters high installation for the hotel which one finds in the lobby. The citizenM Times Square hotel truly brings something special at the hotel chain’s familiar price point in an area in which most prices are considerable higher, making it an unique hotel in every sense.
On top of what goes on inside, the building in the heart of the Theater District is also only a 5 minute walk from 5th Avenue, Madison Avenue, Central Park and Columbus Circle, and as little as 15 minutes away from the major museums, Rockefeller Center and the Empire State Building, making it another perfect fit for a ‘mobile citizen’ and its need to move quickly through a city.
The citizenM Times Square was basically set up for all activities one could wish for; admire the art, relax, meet a friend, send some emails, or flip through one of the coffee table books in the lobby which feels like a set of oversized living rooms. Get some work done on the quiet mezzanine, take a breath of fresh air on one of the terraces, grab a sandwich or pastry from the canteen, head up to the 21st floor for a cocktail. Ambassadors in the hotel are available 24 hours a day, the rooms are soundproof, making it a hotel fit for any schedule or work ethic, which should make a lot of people very happy as this will therefore be their next stop whenever visiting New York City.
It’s great to finally be able to visit New York City in a citizenM. We want to visit right now!
