Tenue de Nîmes Haarlemmerstraat

After months of hard work, designing, building, creating new collections of vintage photographs, frame antique pressed flowers from my grandparents, putting together a diverse collections of boxing memorabilia, we are super proud with the official opening of the second Tenue de Nîmes store in Amsterdam! Housed in Amsterdam’s Haarlemmerstraat the store is divided into a separate men’s and women’s world, referred to as Tenue de Nîmes ‘Mesdames’ and ‘Messieurs’.

The women’s side is characterized by light colors, soft interior details and colourful artifacts by Eames, Horst Bruning and Tapio Wirkkala. Walls are partly covered with panelling, as a nod to the aristocratic Dutch canal houses, but do still show the rough edges of the core building.

The gentlemen have a private section in the basement. This part of the store is a cross-over between 20th century boxing spirit and wooden design. All the furniture in the store is for sale and in the men’s basement visitors will come across iconic pieces from the 50s and 60s by designers like Olavi Haninen and Friso Kramer.

The jeans section of the new store is marked by a huge denim wall made out of old wooden beams that date back to the 19th century. These beams were sourced in the north of the Netherlands and were once used as the legs of a traditional Dutch barn. The denim wall is placed against one of the old walls of the building and shows numerous unique references to the rich past of the space. One being a signature that is dated October 23th 1852, exposing the incredible heritage of the building.

Open seven days a week in the hearth of Amsterdam, we hope we’ve opened a new destination for all denim lovers and devotees of vintage design and quality clothing. You are all welcome!
